TLV JH7RL-B Free Float Steam Trap

The TLV JH7RL-B is an inline repairable free float steam trap equipped with a thermostatic bimetal air vent. It is designed for applications requiring small-to-large capacities and can handle pressures up to 10 MPaG (1500 psig). Typical applications include various types of heat exchangers, process heaters, and coils. The trap discharges condensate continuously and automatically at a temperature slightly lower than the saturation temperature.

Configuration

The steam trap consists of several key components including the body, free float mechanism, orifice, thermostatic air venting components, and screens to protect internal mechanisms.

WARNING

NEVER apply direct heat to the float. The float may explode due to increased internal pressure, causing accidents leading to serious injury or damage to property and equipment.

Proper Installation

  • Install for use under conditions in which no freeze-up will occur.
  • Install for use under conditions in which no water hammer will occur.
  • Before installation, be sure to remove all protective seals and blow out the inlet piping to remove dirt and oil.
  • Install the steam trap within the allowable inclination and make sure the arrow mark on the body corresponds with the direction of flow.
  • Install the trap in the lowest part of the pipeline or equipment so the condensate flows naturally into the trap by gravity.
  • Support the pipes properly within 800 mm (2.5 ft) on either side of the trap.
  • Install a bypass valve, as well as inlet and outlet isolation valves.

Inspection and Maintenance

Operational inspections should be performed at least twice per year, or as called for by trap operating conditions.
