Yoshitake SU-50H Ductile Cast Iron Strainer

Yoshitake SU-50H ductile cast iron strainer featuring a maximum pressure of 2.0 MPa, suitable for water and oil at up to 80°C. Standard 60-mesh stainless steel screen.

Yoshitake SU-50H Ductile Cast Iron Strainer

Yoshitake SU-50H is a high-performance ductile cast iron strainer primarily designed for removing dust and alien matter from cooling and industrial water systems. As the flagship model of the SU-50 series (which also includes the SU-50, SU-50S, and SU-50SS), the SU-50H is engineered to handle a maximum operating pressure of 2.0 MPa and fluid temperatures up to 80°C. These strainers are equipped with a standard 60-mesh stainless steel screen and utilize an NBR O-ring sealed cover to ensure reliable, leak-free performance. While the SU-50H utilizes a standard bolted cover with a JIS 20KRF flanged connection, the SU-50S and SU-50SS variants feature a quick-open davit design, allowing operators to easily disassemble the cover and clean the screen without completely removing heavy bolts. This product family supports versatile integration for heavy-duty industrial piping networks.

Features

  • Ductile Cast Iron Body: The SU-50H model features a robust ductile cast iron body that allows for a maximum pressure of 2.0 MPa.
  • Premium Screen: Standard stainless steel screen ensures excellent rustproof performance and long-term durability.
  • Reliable Sealing: The cover is equipped with an O-ring, ensuring superior sealing and preventing outer leakages.
  • Quick-Open Design: Models SU-50S and SU-50SS feature an easy-to-use quick-open structure, making disassembly and screen cleaning highly efficient.

Standard Flow Velocity

The nominal size of the strainer should typically be the same as that for the piping. If the nominal size of the strainer is smaller than the piping, the pressure loss may increase significantly.

Installation

Yoshitake SU-50H piping installation example

  1. Installation of pressure gauges at either end of the strainer will enable you to tell the clogging condition of the strainer by looking at the loss of pressure.
  2. Upon installation, make sure that the cover (2) is positioned at the top.

Installation Cautions

  • Confirm that the direction of the fluid flow matches the arrow on the product. The product will not function if installed in the wrong direction.
  • As this product is heavy, use a hanging device to securely support the product upon connection to the piping. For hanging Models SU-50S and SU-50SS, eye nuts may be used.
  • Ensure no unnatural force, bending, or vibrations are transmitted to the product from the piping.

Space Required for Maintenance

Sufficient space must be secured for maintenance and screen cleaning.

Maintenance and Inspection

Severe Hazard

Remove all pressure within the product, piping, and equipment before disassembly and inspection. In case of hot fluid, cool down the product body so you can touch it with your bare hand before disassembly. Residual pressure can result in severe injuries or scalding.

Troubleshooting

Condition of failureCausesMeasures and treatment
Fluid does not flow.1. Screen is clogged.
2. Stop valves at either end are closed.
1. Disassemble the strainer and clean screen.
2. Open the stop valve(s).
Loss of pressure is great.1. Screen is clogged.
2. Pressure gauge is out of order.
3. Nominal size is too small for actual flow volume.
1. Disassemble and clean screen.
2. Exchange the pressure gauge.
3. Use a strainer with a larger nominal size.
Alien matter is not removed.1. Screen is damaged.1. Disassemble and exchange screen. (Do not open quick valves immediately to prevent water hammer damage).
Cover cannot be removed.1. Inside is a vacuum.
2. Cover and body are stuck together.
1. Break the vacuum inside the pipe.
2. See removal instructions.
Outer leakage occurs.1. O-ring is damaged.
2. Cover is not assembled properly.
1. Install a new O-ring.
2. Assemble properly.

Removal of the Screen

For Model SU-50 / 50H:

  1. Remove the bolts.
  2. Remove the cover. If stuck, screw M8 bolts into the two holes on the cover until it comes up, then remove the M8 bolts.
  3. Remove the screen from the body and clean with compressed air and cleaning agents.

For Model SU-50S:

  1. Loosen eye nuts with a screwdriver.
  2. Move the arm away from the cover. For 150A, move both arms away.
  3. Remove the cover. If stuck, move one of the screws on the cover to the other side and screw them in evenly until the cover comes up.
  4. Remove and clean the screen.

Assembly After Disassembly

  1. Clean the body and the portions of the cover that come in contact with the O-ring.
  2. Assemble the screen onto the cleaned body.
  3. Apply silicone grease onto a new O-ring and place it in the slot on the cover, then assemble the cover.
  4. For SU-50/50H, tighten the bolts.
  5. For SU-50S, return the arm to the position of the stud bolts, then tighten the eye nuts. Confirm plain and spring washers are fitted.
