BURKERT 20140401 (Type 8746) is an inline digital gas mass flow meter for air up to 800 Nl/min. Features G 1/2 aluminium body, FKM seals, 0-10 V output, 1:50 dynamic range, and 24 V DC supply.

BURKERT 20140401 Type 8746 Gas Mass Flow Meter, 800 Nl/min Air, 0-10 V Output, G 1/2

BURKERT 20140401 (Type 8746) is an inline digital thermal gas mass flow meter engineered for precise gas measurement without an integrated control valve. Configured specifically for air at flow rates up to 800 Nl/min, this unit utilizes an InlineChipDigital ALU sensor module installed on an aluminium high-flow sensor block. Process connection is provided via G 1/2 female threaded ports, paired with FKM sealing materials. The meter transmits measurement data via a 0 to 10 V standard analog voltage signal and operates on a 24 V DC power supply with a power draw of 2 W.

Measurement Configuration and Sensor Architecture

BURKERT 20140401 operates in pure measurement mode. The device includes a high-flow aluminium sensor block housing an InlineChipDigital ALU sensor. Because it operates strictly as a mass flow meter rather than a controller, the actuator interface remains unequipped (recorded as without coil and without valve body).

The instrument provides a dynamic measuring range of 1:50 across an operating span up to 800 Nl/min of air. Flow readings are output as a linear 0 to 10 V DC analog voltage. Operating settings and parameters are stored on an integrated memory card, allowing device replacement without losing configuration profiles.

Installation, Electrical, and Commissioning

Installation requires adherence to orientation and procedural sequences to protect internal sensor elements and maintain accuracy:

  • Mounting Position: Mount the device in a horizontal orientation.
  • Process Porting: Connect piping to the G 1/2 threaded ports without introducing mechanical loads to the aluminium body.
  • Electrical Connection: Supply stabilized 24 V DC power. Maximum power draw is 2 W under both standard and UL-compliant operating conditions.
  • Startup Sequence: Following installation or process interruptions, always adhere to the required startup order:
    1. Apply supply voltage or pneumatic supply.
    2. Charge the device with medium.

Safety and Operating Limits

Observe maximum pressure limits and electrical protection procedures during installation and maintenance.

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

BURKERT 20140401 contains electronic components sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Ensure compliance with EN 61340-5-1 handling requirements. Do not touch electronic assemblies when the supply voltage is connected.

Pressure and Electrical Safety

  • Depressurize, vent, and drain piping before performing mechanical or process connections. Never exceed the maximum operating pressure of 1 bar (normal operating pressure: 0.300 barg).
  • Disconnect power and secure against reactivation prior to servicing electrical connections.
  • Never make unauthorized structural alterations to the device; use only genuine Bürkert spare parts to preserve operational safety.
